You Can’t Spell Koward Without “KD” by Jared Ashdown ’18

July 8th 2010: “LeBron, what is your decision?” “This is tough, however this morning I’ve concluded I am taking my talents to South Beach.” It happened. 46 years and no championships and what seemed to be our only hope left out the door. Flash Forward to 2016 and you will find it was the greatest thing LeBron could have done. It happened. LeBron James not only came back, but 52 years of misery not only disappeared, there’s now a winning attitude everywhere in the city. LeBron James’s comeback not only wasn’t completely expected, people weren’t even sure they wanted him back to begin with. While a comeback for KD is possible in the future, fans should not expect it and they should hate KD. Kevin Durant’s decision to leave Oklahoma City to bolt to the Golden State Warriors comes off as incredibly selfish, cowardly, and weak. LeBron James did not leave Cleveland in 2010 due to a lack of support. LeBron James left Cleveland because he didn’t have any support! Antawn Jamison, Mo Williams, Anthony Parker, Delonte West and a washed up 37 year old Shaq is not suffice to win a championship. The reason LeBron James decision and KD’s decision are different is because KD left a team that 3 times, was 48 minutes away from the NBA Finals and couldn’t close the deal to go to the team that not only beat him, but was the reigning NBA Champion and was only 4 points from repeating. Not to mention, LeBron had no help at all while Kevin Durant has had players like Serge Ibaka, James Harden, Enes Kanter, Steven Adams, and most importantly Russell Westbrook to play with. When Lebron left to go to Miami, the Heat were not the team that beat him. As a matter of fact the Heat got bounced in 5 games in the first round of the playoffs after a 47 win season. It just so happens he went to play with his best friend Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh left Toronto to help create the Big 3. LeBron is no coward. Not only has he actually won championships unlike KD, he has done it for the city that invested a lot to get him, and a city LeBron loves dearly. If KD and the Warriors win the championship next year, there will be a little bit of a hole in the Larry he brings home.
