The St. Edward Varsity Soccer team begins its journey into the playoffs this Saturday, October 19 at 2 p.m. The first opponent of the Eagles will be Valley Forge. They won their first playoff game 7-1 so they will be a tough opponent. The Eagles have the home field advantage and encourage everyone to come out and support the varsity soccer team in their auspicious start on the road to the ring. The Eagles are seeded second in the state of Ohio, right behind their rivals. The Eagles’ 9-2-5 record is encouraging as the team heads into the game Saturday. The team is looking to make as deep a run as possible, especially because of the bitterness left from how last year’s season ended. These upcoming games are why the Eagles have been training since July. Guys are coming back from injuries and others are dealing with little nicks and bruises that appear whenever boots are laced up. The team is focused on soundly defeating the challengers this weekend and then preparing for the huge game coming soon. Senior Captain Nate Brown says, “We are very excited to get the tournament underway. We have put a lot of hard work into this season and are ready to leave our mark in the St. Eds history.” At the start of training, a goal was set that no one else that has ever passed through St. Edward has achieved; a state title for soccer. The only thing that matters now is putting up number 53 in the gym; the first one of its kind, one that has “Soccer 2013” written on it. Anyone that gets in the way of this goal is in for a rough afternoon.
