With final exams and senior graduation just around the corner, the spring sports season is coming to a close. The Eagle lacrosse team has faced a campaign full of ups and downs, and with the regular season in the rearview mirror, they look ahead to the playoffs.

The Green and Gold finished with a record of 6-11 on the year and will face Shaker Heights in the first round, a team that they defeated back on April 9th 10-9. The contest will take place in the Back Yard at 7 p.m., with the winner advancing to play Jackson in Massillon on Saturday, a team with which the Eagles are capable of hanging.

“We’ve played a good couple of games in the past couple weeks and we’re looking forward to keep the momentum going into the playoffs,” announced head coach Dave Giorgis this past Sunday at the team banquet. The Eagles went 2-1 in the final three games of the season, blowing out Green and Strongsville by a combined score of 38-12, but dropped the finale to the one-loss St. Ignatius Wildcats, 13-6.

“It’s never easy coming back a year after losing 84% of your offensive production to graduating seniors, but our guys have done a great job stepping up this year,” added Giorgis as he distributed awards.

The Eagles dropped a contest earlier this season to Jackson at home, 13-10, but led most of the way and showed that the Polar Bears are a team that they can take down. A win Saturday would advance the Eagles to regionals for the second consecutive year, but they must first take care of the Red Raiders Thursday night on Coughlin Field at 7:00.
