Despite a break in the schedule due to snow, on February 6, St. Edward held their annual National Signing Day Ceremonies. In traditional fashion, parents, coaches and students gathered in the Main Gymnasium to support the sixteen different student athletes sign scholarship offers to their future colleges. This year, five different sports were represented, including football, baseball, cross country, golf, and track and field. Like many other graduating classes in St. Edward history, this signing day was full of many division 1 commitments. Some of the highlights included football players Tyler King and Jack Walz commitments to Bowling Green State University, Jake Pruehs’s commitment to Ohio University, and track athlete Steele Wasik’s commitment to University of California at Los Angeles. As the student-athletes signed away their next four years, they were met with cheers and support from the crowd.
St. Edward has always been known as a place of athletic greatness. With so many great St. Edward athletes graduating each and every year, The Edsman wants to know what you think. What is the best signing day class in St. Edward history? Is it the class of 2011, highlighted by the football greats of Kyle Kalis (Michigan), Sam Grant (Oklahoma), Tyler Orlosky (West Virginia), Greg Kuhar (Northwestern) and Daryl Render (Pittsburg)? Or is it the great class of 1998 with two future NBA players in Sam Clancy (USC), and Steve Logan (Cincinnati), a future olympian Andy Hrovat (Michigan), future NHL center Michael Rupp (signed by New York Islanders), future NFL player Dejuan Groce (Nebraska) and future UFC fighter Gray Maynord (Michigan State)? Maybe the 2008 class with basketball stars Delvon Roe (2008) and Tom Pritchard (Indiana), as well as future MLS star Darlington Nagbe (Akron). Each of these classes is a great example of the athletic talent that has once walked the halls of St. Edward. Which is the best? You decide by voting in our poll below.
