On a cool fall Saturday night, thousands came out to Lakewood Stadium to watch the 51st meeting between St. Edward and St. Ignatius. Another highly anticipated game, it did not disappoint, leaving fans on the edge of their seat. The Eagles came soaring out of the gate as Shaun Crawford ran for an 80 yard touchdown on the first play. The Eagles would slow down a bit, and go into halftime tied with St. Ignatius 14-14. The injuries of several players were key losses for the Eagles. Linebacker Ralph Nichols, Safety Jack Walz, and Safety/Flex Shaun Crawford all left the game with different injuries. Crawford would come back into the game for the 3rd and 4th quarter. After 2 field goals by St. Ignatius kicker Matt Collela, the Eagles drove down the field and kicked a field goal to make the score 20-14 St. Ignatius. A quick defensive stop put the Eagles in great position to make a comeback with 3 minutes left in regulation, but a special teams error gave Ignatius the ball back, securing their win 23-17. The Eagles did not hang their heads, knowing that playing St. Ignatius in the playoffs is a very good possibility.
This Saturday the football team will play Cincinnati Moeller, who is ranked as the #1 team in the state. An Eagle victory would give the team a huge boost and an advantage in the playoffs. It is very important that everyone comes out and supports the team.  Make sure to come out to Lakewood Stadium Saturday at 2 P.M. and go Eagles!
