Golf Team Falls Short in Columbus: A Reflection

Golf Team Falls Short in Columbus: A Reflection

By: Danny Zahn ‘16
In 2012, the St. Ed’s varsity golf team won its first Sectional Championship. In preparing for 2013, as a team full of talent and experience, we knew we wanted more. On October 9, 2013, the varsity golf team won its first District Championship, sending St. Ed’s to the state tournament for two consecutive years.  As a member of the varsity team, representing St. Ed’s at the OHSAA State Golf Championship was an honor and a great privilege. The stakes were high and I really wanted to perform well to help bring home a banner. Unfortunately, we fell short of our expectations this year, but that does not diminish a great season, with great players, lead by caring and dedicated coaches. While highlights of the seasons included 1st place finishes, medallist honors, and new school records, speaking on behalf of all of my teammates, I believe that the greatest thrill of the season was to stand at Hole #1 of the Scarlet course teeing off, hearing the sound of our Eagle student section who made the trip to C-Town pumped and ready to cheer us on. As golfers, we play each hole as an individual but we end the round as a team, all of us proud to represent the “E”. Although the varsity team will graduate seniors Joey Krecic, Jack Glending, and Jimmy Allen, we are confident that the golf program will continue a strong winning tradition and we look forward to hitting the links in 2014. Thank you for all the support this year.
