Eagles Battle Back to Force Draw against Wildcats
September 20, 2013
The Eagles went down to the, “School across from Wendy’s” , St. Ignatius, for a battle on the pitch on Tuesday night. Before the game even started, the intensity of the game could be felt by the looks on the player’s faces. The Eagles looked ready to battle and fight, and that is just what they needed to do.
Before the game, the Eagle bench was filled with chants of, “This is our time!”, and “They don’t want us!” Manager Ryan Colby even pulled a few players aside and could be heard saying, “This is it, the road to the ring starts now!”
The game started out as any Holy War would, with much physicality and intensity. Neither team budged, with the score remaining scoreless for the first half of the first period. But, with 23:41 left to go in the first period, Ignatius capitalized on a penalty kick to give them the 1-0 lead. Then, with 13 minutes left before the half, the Wildcats were able to find the back of the net again, giving them a 2-0 lead at the half.
The Eagles would not be flustered, as they came out on the offensive at the start of the second half. With the attack becoming unrelenting, the Eagles finally broke through. Junior Julian Castro was able to capitalize and net a goal with 44:12 left in the game, cutting the lead down to 2-1.
With rejuvenation in the Eagle student section, the players got a second wind and stayed on the attack. With 23:51 left in the game, Junior Chris Allen came up on the goal and kicked one past the goalie to knot the game up at 2 all. That proved to be the last goal of the game, ending the game in a draw.
With the tie against St. Ignatius, the Eagles are now 6-0-4, the only undefeated team left in Ohio Division 1 Soccer. The Eagles play Orange High School on Thursday, September 20th in the backyard. Make sure you get out and support the Eagle soccer team.
