After a successful first year the St. Edward Rowing Team is looking to carry over and expand on their inaugural year success. This fall welcomes the addition of two new coaches, the first varsity crew, and a new novice crew. The Eagle Rowers will compete at four regattas this fall featuring crews from all over the Midwest region and beyond. The schedule is as follows:
Saturday 9/21- The season starts off with The Head of the Cuyahoga in Downtown Cleveland which is also the only hometown race of the season.
Saturday 9/28- The team will travel to Toledo to compete in 2013 Frogtown Races.
Saturday 10/5- The whole team will cross state lines for the Head of the Ohio in Pittsburgh.
Saturday 10/26- The fall season will finish out with the Blake Haxton Fall Invitational in Columbus, Ohio.
The Rowing Team, competing as novices, medaled at every regatta last fall which made for a grand entrance for St. Edward in the world of rowing. As Head Varsity Coach, Matt Carlsen says that this season, “will prove to be a challenge but I believe each rower and coxswain is up to this huge undertaking. Having been on the water a month longer than the teams we will be racing, this will give us a good shot at medaling at every race.” This fall marks a historic point in the school’s and team’s history because it is the first time St. Edward will row with both a novice and varsity crew.
