The Falcons have just established themselves as legit contenders in the NFC.
After signing Kirk Cousins to a 4-year, $180 million dollar contract, Atlanta has finally found their franchise quarterback. The past 6 seasons have been rough at quarterback, with an aging Matt Ryan, a washed Marcus Mariota, and Desmond Ridder. Kirk Cousins finally provides this team with a talented leader who has been a fringe top-10 QB for most of the 2010’s. Kirk elevates every receiver around him. Receivers like Justin Jefferson, Adam Thielen, TJ Hockenson, and Pierre Garcon have all had career years with Kirk at the helm. Atlanta’s uber-talented but under-utilized weapons: Kyle Pitts and Drake London, are due for career years with this signing.
The only missing piece to Atlanta’s roster was a quarterback. Sure, there are needs on the defensive line, especially given the lack of success the pass rush has had over the past decade, but quarterbacks win football games. Not to mention, the defense showed flashes last year. The secondary made massive improvements with the signing of Jessie Bates, and Demarcco Hellams’ emergence is exciting.
Atlanta is now in a prime position to win a division title for the first time since 2016.
