With Mr. Step giving us three snow days in two weeks, I’m here to give a top five ranking of my favorite snow day moves.
- No move at all
What makes a snow day great is that it is a great excuse to do nothing. Everybody needs a day to decompress, which the snow day allows for. Big fan of the no move option.
- Sledding
The usage rate may not be as high as it once was, but sledding remains an all-time snow day activity. There are few things more fun than sliding down a massive hill covered in snow. Only major problem with this move is that it requires driving to a location to sled, which can be an issue given the weather conditions.
- Hot Chocolate
Not many better ways to start off a snow day than to whip up some hot chocolate. It’s a great way to set the mood for the day, and it tastes great. Lots of people forget about hot chocolate once you get past the holidays, but I most definitely don’t. Great move here.
- NCAA Football 14/NCAA Basketball 10 Dynasty Mode
If you have the privilege of owning an Xbox 360/PS3 with a working NCAA Football 14 or NCAA Basketball 10 disc, then there is no excuse not to be running a dynasty all snow day long. I love rebuilding a mid-major school like Canisius in NCAA 10, getting them into the ACC, bringing in 5 stars, and winning a national championship. In NCAA 14, I love to do the same, but work my way up from a MAC school like Eastern Michigan, and then get to the Big 10 or SEC to take the helm at a storied program. Only reason this move isn’t #1 is because I realize not everybody has the honor to own these games or a functioning Xbox 360/PS3. (Note: My NCAA 14 disc only lets me run simulations, I unfortunately can’t actually do any gameplay)
- Sleeping in
The worst thing about school in my opinion is waking up at 6/7 AM. The snow day gives you those extra 3-5 hours of sleep which are absolutely crucial. This past Monday night I was up rather late grinding out some Unit ID’s for Mrs. Fairfield, and was looking at more of a nap than a full-night’s sleep. When I woke up at 7 AM, I saw the email from Mr. Step that said we had a snow day. My day was made, and I got an extra 5 hours of shut-eye. This is a boring move for the #1 slot, but it is essential.
