In chilly weather, people usually prefer to have a hot drink to keep themselves warm. It could be a cup of coffee or hot cocoa, but everyone has their preference when it comes to hot drinks. Even if two people like the same drink, the reasons behind it might differ, such as nostalgia, cultural significance, or simply the taste. In this article, we will delve into the specifics of each hot drink and ultimately decide which one is the best for winter.
Even though we may think that there are a lot of hot drinks out there, if you take out all the ones with alcohol included, then you are left with four main kinds. The first of the four is coffee, and this is the one with the most well known variations. Whether it be a Latte, Cappuccino, Americano, or any other type that you can think of, they are all usually drank in the morning and used as a way to wake-up. Typically combined with other things such as creamer, coffee can take on a myriad of flavors and is a go to, especially for adults.
The second hot drink being talk about is hot tea. Hot tea, although not having as many well known varieties as coffee, it has an inherently less bitter taste, making it easier for a wider audience to drink. Tea, similar to coffee, uses a lot of additives to change its taste. Common additives include sugar, honey, and creamer/milk. With the use of additives and infusion of other flavors, hot tea can be a great drink for almost anyone, although it seems like typical audiences for this drink are older people as well as moms.
The third of the hot drinks is hot apple cider. This drink transcends its atypical season for drinking, as it tastes great from autumn through till the end of winter. It’s essentially a sweeter and stronger version of apple juice that is warmed up. What could be wrong with that? Practically nothing as this is a standard drinking handed out at any gathering during this cold seasonal period.
The final hot drink that fits into the main four is probably what most people think of when they think hot drink, it is hot chocolate. The drink itself is basically warmed up chocolate milk, but the return you get for doing this is enormous. There is a reason this drink is so popular, as its sweetness and richness are second to none. It can also combine with a lot of festive flavors, such as peppermint. No matter where you go during the holiday season, this drink is always available, and it is almost impossible to mess up.
Now that introductions are out of the way, it is time to rank them. For the ranking process, we will use a recent poll that took the judgement of a few St. Edwards into account. This poll was set up where the student would have to choose one drink to be in first, second, third, and fourth place. Here are the results and what was deduced from the results.
As the unanimous favorite, hot chocolate topped the poll, with not a single person placing it lower than second. In its campaign for first place, it gained 69.2% of the votes, making it the runaway winner. In second place was apple cider, and as suspected this was quite the controversial drink. The drink although taking second place had votes in every placement, demonstrating that there are varied opinions on this drink. In third, tea held its ground, not coming last and had 50% of the voters place it as third best out of all these drinks. It was not shocking to see this drink lower, as it has a stigma of not being a drink for younger audiences, which made up the majority of the poll. Bringing up the rear was coffee, even though it is probably drank the most, the flavor and its lack of exclusivity are probably why its been placed here.
