On Saturday, August 28, the St. Edward Eagles beat Rock Creek Christian out of Maryland 56-18. This game was over in the first quarter. Setting the tone for the game, Carlton Landingham had an 80 yard kickoff touchdown on the first play of the game. This was followed by a punt from the opponent and then a quick rushing touchdown by Danny Enovich. St. Ed’s had the ball for about 3 minutes the whole first quarter, in other words, defense was dominant. Just in the first half, Jack Riley had a fumble recovery touchdown and Dontez Howard had a pick six. Howard had another fumble recovery touchdown in the second half. Jackson Miller and Connor Goodall also had receiving touchdowns in the first half of the game. Christian Ramos also rushed for one. The game started to get a little scrappy by the end of the first half, certainly the other team was frustrated by how bad they were getting beat. This game showed just how dominant St. Ed’s can be.

One thing that was surprising about the game was the student section. Rock Creek Christian is not ranked high in Maryland so I thought that the student section for Ed’s may be small. This was certainly not the case. The student section was packed and loud. This certainly gave the players motivation to dominate, which they did. Looking forward to next week, the Eagles look to defeat Mentor. Mentor is coming off of a victory of St. Ignatius. This game will be absolutely crazy from every standpoint: packed stadium, packed student sections, and two very good teams facing off next Saturday in Lakewood. St. Ed’s has advanced to 2-0 and a win next week against Mentor, one of the better teams in the state, would be huge.

Tonight’s game showed that St. Ed’s is THAT team and every other Ohio team should be on notice.
