Varsity Hockey Senior Spotlight

This past Saturday’s two o’clock match-up between the Eagles and the Padua Fransican Bruins (a 5-2 victory for the Green and Gold) marked the final home game for seniors Matthew Smith, Joe Wilber, Nate Capalezzo, Jacob Dobrowsky, and Nate Grabowski.
This GLHL matchup for the Eagles was the final time the five play at Serpentini Winterhurst Area:
Matthew Smith- “Smitty” has played three varsity seasons for the Eagles. He has contributed 17 points this season with 10 goals and 7 assists. Matthew has served as captain this season and his leadership has been a huge boost to the Eagles.
Joseph Wilber– Joe has played as a varsity Eagle for three years and has worn number 6 for each of them.Sidelined by injuries for a good chunk of the season, Joe has 6 points this season and has only played 15 games. Joe is also serving as captain for the varsity eagles. Joe was also part of the State Championship winning football team last season.
Nate Cappellazzo– “Cap” has played the last two years on varsity as goaltender. His freshman year Nate was the only JV goalie. He started every single game for the junior varsity as a freshman and has continued to start most games in the last three seasons. Nate has a .917 save percentage this year and will be a large part of the Eagles success moving forward this season.
Jacob Dobrowsky– This year will mark Jacob’s second year as a varsity Eagle. Jacob has the hardest shot on the team. He wears number 18 for the eagles and last season recorded a goal from the redline.
Nate Grabowski – Nate has been contributing to the varsity Eagles including strong performances against Shaker and Gilmour. His contribution to the JV team was huge in his first three seasons holding the puck in the zone and being a strong presence at the blue line. Nate was a large piece in the junior varsity victory against St. Ignatius.
