Eagles Rout Clarkson-Football North in Friday Night Lights Showdown
October 22, 2019
Coming off a big win against St. Ignatius, the St. Edward football team was able to defeat Clarkson-Football North in a blowout win, 48-11. Despite the scoreline, the Eagles were somewhat tested early by the All-Canadian squad. After going up 13-0 in the first quarter, Football North’s quarterback Quincy Vaughn threw a perfect pass to his receiver for a touchdown. Football North would go on to successfully complete a 2-point conversion, making the score 13-8. The St. Edward Eagles would go on to score again and went into halftime leading 20-11. After halftime, the Eagles offense exploded and scored 28 unanswered points. The defense recorded 6 sacks on Football North’s Quincy Vaugn, and held them to 0 points in the second half.
One of the biggest storylines of the game for St. Edward was the return of wideout Mackenzie Wainwright, who previously missed the last 7 games of the season due to a leg injury. Wainright, who is committed to Ohio State for baseball, was a valuable asset to the state championship winning team last season. Against Football North, Mackenzie Wainwright caught 3 touchdown passes in his first game back from injury. Looking forward, Wainwright will be a very valuable part to St. Edward’s offense in their playoff run.
St. Edward improves to 7-1 on the season and next up for the Eagles is Archbishop Moeller of Cincinnati, who is coming off a loss against St. Ignatius. The Eagles will take on the Moeller Crusaders this Saturday, at 4 PM, inside First Federal Lakewood Stadium. Last year, the Eagles took care of Moeller 29-22 in a comeback win.
