Fire Up Monday (No. 9)

One of the most anticipated St. Edward basketball game in Eagle history did not go our way on Saturday. SPIRE Academy defeated the Eagles 122-86 in front of a sold-out crowd in the Eagle’s Nest.
After a slow start for the Eagles in the first quarter, hitting the 10th point mark gave us momentum, which was fueled by the epic student section. The annual silent night game was the student section theme for the game. And let me tell you, that five minute period right after the Eagles scored the 10th point was the most HYPED I have ever seen in any St. Edward sporting event. Check out this video if you don’t believe me.
Besides the six-point run the Eagles had after we scored 10, not much else went for the Eagles. Rocket Watts, a Michigan State commit, had the game of his life with 64 points, highlighted by 15 three-pointers. I’d have to do my research, but I would say that Rocket’s performance is the best game of any opponent against St. Edward ever. With his lights out shooting, the Eagles struggled to get back in the game.
The only thing we can do now is put that game behind us and focus on what’s ahead. The Eagles’ last three games were all against non-OHSAA teams. The rest of our games are against good OHSAA teams that the Eagles could see again in the playoffs. The Eagles are battle-worn and will continue to improve throughout the rest of the season. The Eagle squad will be fun to watch from here on out!
GO EAGLES!
