ICYMI: Red Gerard, ROcky River Native Wins Gold at Winter Olympics, by Connor Stanton

Red Gerard, Rocky River native and snowboarder on Team U.S.A.,is the youngest American to win a gold medal in the Winter Olympics since 1928. At 17, Red’s olympic debut started off rough. He overslept, lost his coat, and casually violated FCC regulations when he “dropped the f-bomb on national television” at the end of his gold medal, slopestyle run. Flying down ramps and landing jumps, he beat Canadians Max Parrot and Mark McMorris who placed second and third. The teen later told talk show hosts “I just didn’t realize how big the Olympics actually were.” He explained saying “I treat every contest like a normal day.” It should also be noted that he is a fan of Chipotle; The company offered him 87 free burritos to compliment his score of 87.16 in slopestyle. He competes in the newly introduced “Big Air” event Wednesday, February 21.
