On October 15, Administration announced who will be leading the Varsity Eagles on the diamond for the 2015-2016 season. Dr. Good introduced the St. Edward Eagles baseball team to Coach Matt Rosinski, a graduate of St. Ignatius High School ‘08 and Miami University ‘12. Rosinski played 3 varsity sports at St. Ignatius and went on to set the record for appearances at Miami. Last year he coached the Wildcat JV team and his own program, Release Baseball, sporting a 58-4-1 record for both programs combined. Joining Rosinski’s coaching staff is Joe Dorocak, a graduate of St. Ignatius ‘08 and the University of Dayton ‘12. Scott Kacirek will return as the team’s pitching coach for the season as well. I sat down with Coach Rosinski to ask a few questions about being the new leader of the baseball program:
Ryan Ashdown: What challenges are you going to face as head coach this year?
Coach Rosinski: There’s definitely a lot of work to do with almost a whole new coaching staff. We need to get to know the players and start developing a program as a whole.
RA: As a coach last year for a different school, what was your take on last year’s St. Ed’s team?
CR: Last year’s team was extremely talented and played well throughout the whole season. Fortunately, we are returning almost the whole pitching staff and infield.
RA: How would you respond to someone who says St. Edward baseball is doubted?
CR: Doubted isn’t the word. We have an unbelievable group of seniors to lead this year. One of the great things about the program is the senior class and because of them and the passion they have for the game, we will never be doubted.
RA: What are you looking forward to most about the season?
CR: The thing I’m looking forward to most is the first day of practice. We start the whole process on February 23rd and I couldn’t be more excited. Not only do we start practice then, but we really start coming together as a unified program.
