Where are they going? Football Eagles get Recruited

Sean Powers ’15
The Eagle Football team is gearing up to play Eastern Christian Academy this weekend for Senior Night at Lakewood Stadium. Many of the seniors on the team have made big impacts on the successes of this season. These impacts have drawn the attention of college coaches across the nation and as a result these seniors have received numerous offers to play college football around the country. But do you know where your classmates are headed? I briefly sat down with 7 of St. Edward’s seniors and asked them about their recruiting journey.
I began with Andrew Dowell who has started for 2 years on the varsity team. Andrew recently committed to the University of Kentucky because he loved the atmosphere and had a good relationship with the coaches. Andrew is undecided on what he wants to study, but he would like to continue playing safety in college while also possibly play running back just as he does for the Eagles. Andrew’s brother, David, also decided to continue to play with his brother in college at the University of Kentucky. David wants to focus on playing cornerback while in college and he chose Kentucky for the facilities, the environment, and the campus. David is leaning towards studying sports marketing.
Quarterback Brett Kean transferred to St. Eds before his starting for the Eagles his junior season. Brett committed to the University of South Florida to continue playing quarterback for the bulls. He intends to study business strongly because of Coach Keehan’s business and entrepreneurship class. Brett chose USF because of the coaching staff as well as the the great athletic and academic programs.
Shaun Crawford who starts at both cornerback and receiver for the eagles committed to play at the University of Notre Dame. Shaun committed to Notre Dame because of it’s similarities to St. Eds, the family-like feel, and the opportunity to play early. He wants to study business and would like to continue to play cornerback and return kicks. Alex Stump committed to The Ohio State University this past Sunday to play wide receiver for the Buckeyes. He wants to study either business or law while at OSU. When asked why Ohio State,
Alex said that playing for the Buckeyes has been a dream for him.  Another factor that drew Alex to commit to OSU is the ability to stay close to home and have his family and friends see him play. There are two Troy’s that hold linebacker positions on the team and the first, Troy Henderson, is committed to the Syracuse University. Troy Henderson is willing to play any position the coaches want him to and while at Syracuse while earning a degree in sales marketing with a minor in finance. Troy Henderson chose Syracuse because of the opportunity to play early and to play in a top conference in the ACC. He also liked the fact that a lot of players get drafted into the NFL. Finally, the other Troy in Troy Dipre is committed to Kent State and he plans to continue to play linebacker. Troy Dipre is looking to study sports training and nutrition. He chose Kent State because of the good relationship he made with the coaching staff, the close proximity to home, and the opportunity to play early.
These are just some of the few St. Edward football players who have either committed or received offers and you can look for them to do big things in the future at their prospective colleges.
