It was a warm, humid night on the last day of summer, as the Eagles took to the pitch for the season for the first time as they took on the Avon Lake Shoremen.  The game had a special buzz around it, as it was the first time in almost three months that the Eagle student section had been in action.
The game started out as a defensive battle, as both teams never really got any shots on goal, and the ball was stuck around the middle of the pitch.  The defense, lead by captain Kurt Wysocki ’15, locked down the back line.  But, with 11 minutes to go in the first half, the Eagles broke through.  Senior Chris Allen, was able to get around the Avon Lake defense and put one in the back of the net.  The Eagles carried the 1-0 lead into the locker room at half.
As the second half started, both teams started to get more physical.  The pace of the game sped up, and there were more chances for both sides.   Alex Dudley ’17 made his first ever career Varsity start at goal keeper, and he impressed.  He was able to keep a clean sheet, not letting any goals in the whole game.
Then, with 12 minutes left, Mike May ’16 capitalized and was able to strike one on the left side of the goal, extending the lead to 2-0.  The Eagles never looked back and finished the day with an opening day shutout.  The Eagles are 1-0-0.  When asked about the key to the game, Kurt Wysocki said, “The key to the game was our energy.
