In case you were busy with homework, had a big test or you were watching the Olympics; here’s what you missed this past week in College basketball. This past week was full of upsets, upsets, a suspension, and even more upsets; in fact 8 teams lost that were ranked higher than their opponent. Here are the scores of these big upsets. Untitled picture Although upsets were a big part of this past week in college basketball, the biggest story happened Saturday night. Oklahoma State point guard Marcus Smart flew into the crowd after committing a foul late in the 4th quarter. Smart started to get up when a fan behind him shouted a derogatory statement to Smart who was just feet away. It is unknown exactly what the fan said but it got under Smart’s skin. Smart approached the fan and shouted back and soon later pushed the fan in the chest before returning to court. As you know above, Smart’s Oklahoma State team was upset by Texas Tech but this altercation with the Texas Tech fan was the bigger news. Smart will be suspended 3 games because of his actions. Both the fan and Smart apologized but the incident made headlines around the sports world. This past week has still left us with 2 undefeated teams in Syracuse and Wichita State, but once again this past week has taught us that there is no one dominant team in college basketball; which will make a very fun and interesting NCAA tournament come March. As the regular season comes to a close I foresee that there will be a lot more upsets and close games in store so be ready.
